You Have a Good Pace; You Made Me Pick Mine Up!

Is there someone you know who needs you to come by their side to help them pick up the pace in their life? Someone who needs your knowledge, coaching, and encouragement, without any controlling or dominating behavior on your behalf? A person you can lovingly and earnestly assist as they work toward achieving their goals or fulfilling their dreams?

It’s not about you, it’s about them. So, be prepared to invest your time and resources, while making any necessary sacrifices to improve their life, as the focus should always be on benefiting them. Now, be kind and patient, as the person you’re leading may not have the stamina or the discipline to keep up with your pace. You may have to adjust your pace to match theirs, gradually building them up until both of you can cruise forward, side by side, effortlessly toward success. Then, you’ll separate, allowing them to advance with greater confidence, gratitude, and independence than ever before.

And also, you never know who’s watching you. A stranger might think, “I wish that guy or gal would show me, teach me, lead me,” pining for the same kind of love and selflessness. Thanksgiving Day is about being grateful for our nation. Yet maybe it means more than that. Perhaps it’s time to be grateful for ALL of God’s creation and SHOW it!

“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.” (Philippians 2:3-4 NLT)

***For the perspective of this blog, I want to share an experience from Tuesday morning. I was walking on the beach at sunrise when I passed an older woman, a familiar fellow beach walker, who was moving in the same direction, only slower. A minute later, she caught up to me and said, “You have a good pace; you made me pick up mine!” However, she quickly grew tired and resumed her normal pace. This interaction inspired the title and content of today’s blog!
