Was it just two pairs of lips coming together for a few awkward moments to signal the birth of a fragile, new relationship? Or was it two sets of luscious, burning flesh interlocking with sizzling passion, as hormones exploded, and young love blossomed like an atomic bomb?
Well, it depends on one’s perspective. For instance, would the first kiss between a seventeen-year-old girl and the boy of her dreams at their high school prom be live dynamite or a damp firecracker? And would the first kiss between a sixty-five-year-old widow who’d been married for forty years, and an attractive, potential partner of the same age and life experiences, be any more or less explosive or breathtaking than the high school sweethearts’ first kiss?
So, I deal with the latter example in my soon-to-be-published novel, Champagne Waves & Sailing Ships. It seems to be the consensus of my beta readers that a first kiss of any relationship, at any stage in life, is extra special and deserving of a big buildup in the plot. This has led me to believe in the old saying that love and romance are in the air; that it’s permanently up and out there, like oxygen or mist, or even the sweet, intoxicating aroma of night-blooming jasmine.
And so will I infuse my characters’ first kisses with such passion and longing, regardless of their age. Love will be love, always waiting to be discovered and experienced by anyone who is willing to let go of their independence for a precious life of powerful interdependence with someone more valuable than all the treasures in the world!
THANKS TO MY BETA READERS FOR OPENING MY EYES!
