Being a fiction author, I create every aspect of my characters—their personalities, strengths, weaknesses, and everything that gives them life—then drop them into a world and storyline that I’ve also created and can alter anytime I choose. I’m in absolute control from the beginning to the end of the novel. In many ways, I’m a mini-god, having the power of life and death over characters and their story arcs.
But my being a mini-god only lasts while I’m sitting before a keyboard and screen, imagining away. Once I power off my machine, I cease being omnipotent, omniscient, and all-loving—unlike the One-true God. He is the supreme Creator imposing His will and vision for His creation. Nothing happens by chance. My beautiful endings to my novels are so insignificant when compared to the perfect, beautiful ending God has in store for those who believe in the Lord Jesus Christ!
Maybe take a moment to consider your storyline. You DO have a choice in how the novel of your life ends. Don’t let other people or influences affect what decisions you make. Get into the Bible—the greatest story ever written—to learn what can be ahead for you: IF YOU BELIEVE!
“And when you stray from your path,
whether to the right or to the left,
you will hear his voice behind you,
sounding in your ears and saying,
‘This is the way; continue to follow it.’” (Isaiah 30:21 NCB
