When is It Not Always Good to Have the Wind at Your Back?

Life can be like walking on the beach when the temperature is ninety degrees, with the sun beating down on your face and shoulders. And if the wind is at your back, that’s not a good thing, contrary to popular wisdom, because even though it helps you move forward a little faster, its ability to refresh you is diminished, and sometimes completely lost.

Maybe today, there’s something about what you’re doing that isn’t bringing you refreshment, pleasure, or satisfaction. And although it’s smooth sailing, something inside you is poking at your peace, questioning the direction you’ve been moving in—whether in health, finances, relationships, or spirituality—and raising the possibility of turning around.

Never fear reversing course, no matter how scary the prospect of change might appear, as long as you don’t let go of your passion or conviction. You see, when you find yourself on the same page with God, you’re now walking with the wind in your face and into a cool breeze that refreshes you. And depending upon the strength of the air flow, you might have to lower your head and dig your feet deeper into the sand to advance. However, at least you’re refreshed and at peace while believing you’re on the right track to a new and special place or experience.

Change can be hard. Very hard. Yet, if you’re willing to brace yourself and charge on through, you WILL get to the end of the challenge, more grateful and blessed than when you were off the mark. So, eagerly push forward with your life’s changes, even as you get pushback, because the OLD, too often, doesn’t want to cede ground to the NEW, by allowing you to rise above it.

However, when you do break through and capture the prize on the other side, you’ll look back and shout, “It was well worth it!”

always listening for fresh insights.” (Proverbs 18:15 MSG)
