As I near the completion of my first romance novel, as well as any other thing I undertake in retirement, my appreciation for these two popular phrases only increases: “Live and learn” and “Never put off till tomorrow what can be accomplished today.” In my case, both snippets of wisdom should be in the same sentence and breath!
In life, we live and learn AND learn. And as we continually learn, we grow and become more exposed to new experiences and challenges we might never have imagined 10, 20, or more years ago. Here are some true things: 1) We can’t stop the passage of time, 2) We don’t always learn the first time around because of something in who we are, and 3) The world is brand new every day and requires our brains to figure it out.
Now, when traveling along life’s road, we can choose to pull off and park for as long as we like at a roadside stop (remember those, Boomers?) and declare, “I’ve seen enough for one lifetime.” This is okay, but we might miss out on unbelievably amazing adventures only God could create to bring us greater peace and fulfillment!
Finally, when I retired (now 70), my national anthem became Sammy Hagar’s song, “I can’t drive 55!” I hope some of you are chuckling and reminiscing. Let’s keep the pedal to the metal. Well, it’s time for me to do some writing and editing, because time ain’t on my side. What adventure awaits you?
God said:
“I am about to do something new.
Now it comes to fruition;
can you not perceive it?
I will make a path through the wilderness
and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19 NCB)
