The Sticky Truth About Procrastination

It doesn’t matter how much intelligence, education, or God-given talent one has; if someone lacks the motivation or passion to tackle a significant endeavor, they’re not likely to leave the starting blocks anytime soon. Or as my generation said, “You ain’t got jack.”

Take me, for instance. I planned on writing this post yesterday, but life got in the way. That was okay because my world wouldn’t end due to a temporary delay. Yet, when I returned to the keyboard today, I just couldn’t rise to the occasion. I wanted to do it, but apparently not bad enough to overcome a lazy spirit.

And, oh boy, did I have the self-justifying excuses to back me up: sore lower back (true), overall feeling of tiredness due to having 4 house guests under the age of 20 for 7 days (true), and feeling hot and uncomfortable after my 5-mile sunrise walk on the beach on a humid day (also true). However, instead of stirring up zeal and joy inside me, I did numerous odd jobs around the house to avoid putting on my thinking cap and creating this post!

But isn’t that the way it always is? We know we should be doing something we always love to do and need to complete, but we’re unable to muster the energy or desire to move forward. So, we piddle away our time on far less important tasks.

Hold that thought. Those darn teenagers have dragged mud onto the pool deck, and I’d better hose it off ASAP!

“Work hard at whatever you do, because there will be no action, no thought, no knowledge, no wisdom in the world of the dead—and that is where you are going.” (Ecclesiastes 9:10 GNT)

  1. Some of us do not procrastinate so I cannot relate too well. If I dont want to do something I simply dont do it. If I procrastinated every time I didn’t feel like cooking or doing laundry, you would be hungry and baked most of the time! 😂🤣😂
