How Badly Do You Want It?

I’m on the cusp of publishing my first romance novel at the tender age of 70. How badly have I wanted this? Well, it’s been fifty years in the making. Back in my late teens and early twenties, I wrote poetry and several manuscripts, although my writing lacked quality, skill, and professionalism. I didn’t put in the time to learn how to be a publishable author. I shot from the hip and understandably went nowhere.

Today, I’m a member of Word Weavers, a wonderful writers’ group where I’ve significantly improved my writing skills through ongoing education, the support of fellow writers, and attendance at seminars and workshops. I continue to learn as I move through the publishing process and feel comfortable saying that one cannot write a book while inside a bubble.

My point is: I never gave up, even though there were plenty of times when I looked inside my mental garage for a shovel to bury that dream six feet under! Regardless of your age, is there a dream you’ve been dancing with for a year, a decade, or half a century, like me, but see no end or possibility for a positive conclusion? If yes, then ask yourself: How badly do I want it? Count the costs in time, money, leisure, and other things that might need to be sacrificed to conclude your dance with that nagging and gnawing dream.

The audience for my romance novel is primarily Boomers and Gen X. So, I’m addressing you now: It’s never too late to resurrect a set-aside dream. Don’t be afraid of the ridicule of the naysayers. Believe that God sewed that dream inside you while you were in your mother’s womb. If you want it bad enough, He will show you the way to achieve it!

“Entrust everything that you do to the Lord,
and your plans will turn out to be successful.” (Proverbs 16:3 NCB)
